“The Place · Oxford University · Silk Road Exhibition" jointly shaped cross-border civilizational dialogue
On February 15th, 2025, the "Silk Road Innovation Cooperation Symposium" jointly organized by IUIA and the Silk Road Cultural and Educational Special Fund of China Overseas-Educated Scholars Development Foundation was successfully held at The Place Beijing. Through three core topics of "World Trade Center Global Digital Trade Platform, Cross-Border Education Cooperation between China and the UK, and Silk Road Art Innovation Exhibition", the event focused on the theme of "International Education Innovation and Cross-Border Cooperation: Beauty in Harmony", showcasing the new model of global education innovation and cross-border cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative.
As the venue and one of the core topics of this event, the activity first presented the "The Place Project" as a model case of cross-border integration and innovation through video display. The founding shareholders of IUIA, Singapore The Place Holdings, successfully built the fashion landmark "The Place Sky Screen" in Beijing in 2007. With its global vision and digital integration capabilities, it now plans to deeply integrate the project with multiple fields such as commerce, tourism, digital communication and internet technology, and upgrade it to build a global digital trade comprehensive platform.
The conference focused on internationalization of education and cross-cultural cooperation. Through keynote speeches and exhibition exchanges, it presented multi-level ideological collisions.
The event announced that the Management Committee of the Silk Road Cultural and Educational Special Fund of China Overseas-Educated Scholars Development Foundation has officially been established at The Place Plaza. Vice Chairman Sun Zhaohua of China Overseas-Educated Scholars Development Foundation pointed out, "The expression of 'beauty' is a universal language shared by all mankind. Cultural education and innovation cooperation are the contemporary continuation of the Silk Road spirit. We need to promote the coexistence and prosperity of diverse civilizations with an open and positive attitude."
As a photographer documenting the Silk Road civilization, Ms. Zhao Liping, the director of the Fund Management Committee, proposed that the exchange of art and education is an important channel for cross-cultural communication on the Silk Road. Meanwhile, the mutual learning of Silk Road civilizations also provides rich cultural nourishment for the innovation of art education.
The event has promoted the in-depth and comprehensive cooperation plan between IUIA and the University of Oxford. Both sides will focus on the "Technology + Art" sector and promote the industrialization and implementation of scientific research achievements in areas such as artificial intelligence, smart technology, health care, digitalization of cultural and artistic content, and cross-border educational resource cooperation. Professor David Johnson, Director of the Oxford Centre for Comparative Education, Former University Proctor, member of the Leadership Steering Committee, University of Oxford, highly appraised the strategic significance of the China-UK educational cooperation. He proposed: "This cooperation is not only the connection of academic resources, but also the construction of an innovative ecosystem. The deep integration of technology and humanistic spirit is reshaping the educational paradigm. We expect to solve the common challenges of humanity through joint research and cross-border cooperation, with a global perspective in mind."
Sun Wan-song, the Executive Director and Secretary-General of IUIA, emphasized that IUIA will serve as a co-founder of the Oxford Innovation Education Center and collaborate with the University of Oxford to build the "Oxford College", a new model of cross-border education between China and the UK. It will also incubate the industrialization and localization of cross-border innovation and entrepreneurship projects, and establish a global platform for cross-border academic research, industry and innovation cooperation. This will provide broader practical opportunities for young talents.
"One Earth All Life": The integration of art and technology, and the innovative dialogue of civilization
As the highlight of the conference, the "Silk Road Countries Photography Art Exhibition: Light and Shadow - Ceramics and Rhythms" made a stunning debut with the special exhibition titled "Light and Shadow - Ceramics and Rhythms". The exhibition innovatively adopted high-precision photocopying technology, allowing the landmark scenic spots along the Silk Road to be vividly depicted on the porcelain of Zibo. This enabled a cross-temporal dialogue between the thousand-year-old ceramic craftsmanship and contemporary image art. From the desert of Dunhuang to the new cities of Eastern Europe, from human relics to rare landforms, the thousand-year-old heritage and modern aesthetics interweave and shine brightly in a few square inches. The accompanying "Exhibition Catalogue of 'One Earth All Life : Silk Road Countries Photography Art Exhibition'" and the Snake Year-themed artworks were presented as gifts to the distinguished guests of the University of Oxford, becoming the materialized carrier for mutual learning between Chinese and foreign civilizations. The guests present highly praised this innovative form, saying that "it makes the spirit of the Silk Road tangible and perceptible, and opens up a new dimension for cultural dissemination."
Ms. Zhao Liping presented the "Photographic Art Exhibition Album of the Silk Road Countries" to the University of Oxford.
From the ancient Silk Road of camel bells to the Digital Silk Road, innovation has always been the core driving force for the integration of civilizations.
This seminar not only provided theoretical guidance for educational internationalization, but also, through artistic innovation and industrial collaboration, delineated the practical paths for cultural exchanges and technological cooperation: The Place Project serves as the "infrastructure foundation", the Oxford Cooperation creates the "intelligence engine", and the Silk Road Art Exhibition is the "humanistic bond" - together, these three elements constitute the golden triangle of the Digital Silk Road.
With the implementation and continuous expansion of the Serbian The Place Project and the sustained development of the China-UK Oxford Innovation Network, cross-border cooperation will accelerate the evolution of the integration and innovation of "industry + technology + culture + education". This feast of ideas and creativity is injecting new intellectual strength into the construction of a community with a shared future for mankind.
